In a few days, new traffic signs will appear at the entrance to two towns in Puy-de-Dôme. Indeed, the municipal map of the department changes from January 1, 2025. Thus, it will no longer be necessary to say “Le Cheix” but “Le Cheix-sur-Morge”. A press release from the Puy-de-Dôme prefecture specifies: “This change of name by decree is the culmination of a procedure initiated by the municipal council of this commune in order to formalize a name which is based on a predominant use actually established and whose use is historically proven”.
Another new feature from January 1, 2025: the new municipality of “Les Deux-Rives” is created in place of the municipalities of Chidrac and Saint-Cirgues sur Couze. The initiative for this creation fell to the two municipalities. The latter decided to retain all municipal councilors and to form delegated municipalities within the perimeter of the former municipalities. The new commune of “Les Deux-Rives” is attached to the district of Issoire and the canton of Sancy.
As of January 1, 2025, the Puy-de-Dôme department will have 463 municipalities. Les Deux-Rives is the seventh new municipality to be created since 2016, after the creation, in 2016, of the new municipalities of Chambaron-sur-Morge (instead of Cellule and La Moutade), Aulhat-Flat (instead of place of Aulhat-Saint-Privat and Flat), Nonette-Orsonnette (in place of Nonette and Orsonnette) and, in 2019, the new municipalities of Mur-sur-Allier (instead of Dallet and Mezel), Le Vernet-Chaméane (instead of Chaméane and Vernet-la-Varenne) and Saint-Diéry (instead of Creste and Saint-Diéry) .
