The 4th and 3rd graders of the Gallo option at the Louis-Guilloux public college in Plémet, near Loudéac (Côtes-d’Armor), were introduced to the art of basketry, until Friday December 20, 2024.

These college students have perpetuated a rural tradition

During 4 sessions of 2 hours each, the middle school students followed the instructions of Cécile Maillard, basket maker from Merdrignac.

During the first session, the students of Plémet have undertaken the bottom of the basket.

Fingers and hands suffered, but everyone held on.

The students then assembled the basket, alternating torches and crocanes during the following two sessions.

During the last session, Friday December 20, 2024the students finalized their work by creating a border and handle. “They took them home, thus reconnecting with a rural tradition that some elders of the territory practiced during their childhood. »

The vocabulary in gallo has been enriched with words belonging to the register of wicker art and the students will approach other traditions.
