Final twist (?) for the new Aumale municipal council. On October 22, Virginie Lucot-Avril, mayor of the town with 2,000 inhabitants since 2010, was appointed senator of Seine-Maritime. Due to the 2017 law on the accumulation of mandates, his mayoral sash was withdrawn from him by the prefect, following early municipal elections on November 18 where François Sellier was elected mayor of the town in 14 votes to five for his opponent.
Rigorous on parity
But it is at the level of town hall deputies that the prefecture came to revoke the elections. Indeed, on December 23, the municipal council met with a surprising item on the agenda: “ Re-election of municipal deputies», even though they had been elected with the mayor on November 18.
The reason for this re-election lies in a administrative irregularitytells us the director general of services (DGS) of the town hall: “It’s a question of parity. For the municipalities ofmore than 1,000 inhabitants strict gender parity must be observed in the number of municipal deputies. And also on the list sent to the prefect, we are required to respect the order man-woman-man-woman. In numerical terms, we were on target with two assistants and the same number of assistants. But on the list,we had placed a man, two women, then a man. The prefecture has called new elections for this irregularity.”
No change
At the end of the re-election, the four deputies Danièlle Lansoy-Caron, Marc Doom, Hélène Agier and Philippe Lucas thereforekept their place. François Sellier, mayor, even said a word of humor: “Congratulations, you are elected! »
