Bayrou Governmentdossier

Omnipresent, survivor of the previous government, building on the milestones laid down by his predecessor, the Minister of the Interior has a free hand to implement a migration policy in line with the proposals of the far right.

Words have meaning. The Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, was not “renewed” by François Bayrou. He decided to stay by imposing his conditions: continuing his policy, particularly migration issues. The last few days prove it. Bruno Retailleau was in Mayotte after the devastating passage of Cyclone Chido. While everyone was monitoring the actions of François Bayrou, who was waiting to appoint a new government team, Bruno Retailleau was already in the projection. He shamelessly declared: “We will not be able to rebuild Mayotte without addressing, with the greatest determination, the migration issue. We will have to legislate so that in Mayotte, as everywhere on the national territory, regains control of its immigration. A position immediately taken up by François Bayrou. Could he say anything else?

Small pebbles

Bruno Retailleau has his hands free. He sticks to his beliefs; imposes its own rhythm and ideas. When he arrived at Place Beauvau in September, he gave a priority instruction to the prefects: reduce legal and illegal immigration. France must use all legal means possible to “remove more and regulate less” of undocumented immigrants. How ? By reforming, for example, the Valls circular: a text which allows prefects to regularize some 30,000 people each year
