JUntil the end of summer, Place Lamothe, located not far from the Quintaou theater, whose crossroads overlook the Angloye crossroads of Rue de Hausquette, oscillated between a traffic crossroads and a square filled with almost all businesses over time. that we can dream of. From the Isabelle creamery, in its annex on rue de Salis, to the Supervie bakery and pastry shop, at the other end, via the fishmonger, the mini market or even the optician, the caterer butcher, the pharmacy, Angelu pizzeria and its two hairdressers.

Thus, by the quality of its businesses, it became “Royal”. Like the name of the restaurant and press broadcaster since 2013, Jean-Pierre Fricot. However, its mineral appearance did not encourage you to linger there. The metal sculpture erected in memory of the Comète resistance network, whose headquarters of the southern network was located at the Villa Voisin, Place Lamothe, added to this austerity.

The late deputy for culture Jean-Michel Barate had also proposed “dressing” this stele with C-shaped vegetation – like Comet – which can be seen in an aerial view.

Four meetings

Place Lamothe deserved to present a real, more natural center, inviting not only parking between two races but conviviality.

“The place is included in block C of the Neighborhood Council, managed by deputy Caroline Oustalet. A global request came from neighborhood councilors,” indicates Alexandre Mendes, the crossroads of these Councils. Everyone regretted that this place remained only a transit area despite the presence of all these businesses. The majority of them joined forces with the “neighbors” of the place, and in particular the optician Milan Siriey, who opened a family store two and a half years ago.

Everyone regretted that this place remained only a transit area despite the presence of all these businesses.

“We held four meetings involving those from the start of rue de Salis, which adjoins the square, including Benoît, the fishmonger, and Christophe, the butcher-caterer who took over the business,” he says. Respecting the town hall’s design: creating islands of vegetation. »

Preserved parking

If the development of a pétanque court could not be retained, for security reasons or even the book box, creating new spaces was the major concern. “We worked with the technical services and mainly Anaïs Martin, designer at the City, who has great qualities when it comes to landscaping. It is mainly with her that I work on many projects, rejoices Alexandre Mendes. The developments made it possible to de-waterproof the ground and encourage the infiltration of rainwater, combat urban heat islands while improving the living environment of users, through a pedestrian path and the creation of a living space and relaxation. »

All this was achieved without changing the parking spaces.

This project, worth 208,000 euros, benefited from subsidies: those from the Water Agency (23,537 euros) and the green fund (12,068 euros). After Christmas, when the pretty immaculate tree disappears, benches will be installed for chatting.
