Dramatic accident on the night of Tuesday December 24 to Wednesday December 25 on the A9 motorway, in Gard. Shortly after 3 a.m., in the Nîmes – Montpellier direction, two cars and a heavy goods vehicle collided at high speed at the level of the commune of Milhaud.
Despite the rapid and numerous dispatch of firefighters, with four ambulances, a road emergency vehicle, two officers and a nurse, supported by a medical team from the Nîmes Smur, the human toll is terrible: there are 7 victims.
A 35-year-old woman, thrown from her vehicle and struck, died before help arrived; three members of the same family from the other vehicle, men aged 17, 22 and 41, were injured and taken to hospital; the driver of the truck, a 30-year-old man, was treated on the spot and also transported to hospital; two witnesses to the accident, involved and shocked, a 37-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, also had to be treated and transported to hospital.
Total interruption of traffic
The intervention required the total interruption of traffic on the motorway in the Orange – Montpellier direction for several hours to secure the intervention with the gendarmerie and the motorway company and for the purposes of the investigation and the removal of vehicles. .
The reasons for the accident are not known at this stage. The gendarmerie opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of this tragedy on Christmas Day.
