The prefect of the Pyrénées-Orientales Thierry Bonnier implemented temporary administrative police measures “in order to guarantee public safety during the end-of-year holidays”. The state representative issued two orders and imposed several bans at Christmas and New Year's Day. The details.
Fuel cans prohibited
You won't be able to do everything during the end-of-year celebrations in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Like every year, the prefect has issued two decrees defining measures applicable to all municipalities in the department. In the first place, transportation, possession and use of fuel cans are prohibited from counting:
- From Monday December 23, 2024 at 10:00 p.m. to Wednesday December 25, 2024 at 8:00 a.m.
- From Monday December 30, 2024 at 10:00 p.m. to Wednesday January 1, 2025 at 8:00 a.m.
“This ban does not apply to uses in a professional context,” however, specifies the decree.
Firecrackers, fireworks too
Another subject, “the transfer, purchase, sale, transport, port and the use of firecrackers, pyrotechnic articles and fireworks (categories F2 and F3) are prohibited from Sunday December 22, 2024 at 11:00 p.m. and until Thursday January 2, 2025 at 8:00 a.m. on public roads or in the direction of public spaces,” continues the prefecture.
Regulated alcohol
Also, the exhibition and take-away sales (with the exception of distance sales with home delivery) of all alcoholic drinks has take away, regardless of their packaging” are also prohibited “in all self-service establishmentsnight grocery stores, as well as in food departments whose main activity is not the sale of food”:
- From Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at 10:00 p.m., to Wednesday, December 25, 2024 at 8:00 a.m.
- From Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at 10:00 p.m., to Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at 8:00 a.m.
“Is also prohibited the consumption of alcoholic beverages on public roads and public spaces, outside the areas of Christmas markets and festivities organized by municipalities, as well as the terraces of duly authorized restaurants and bars,” specifies the prefectural decree.
Checks carried out
“Moreover, at the request of the prefect, the internal security forces will put in place measures intended to ensure security and public order during the end-of-year celebrations,” state services point out.
Numerous checks will be carried out over the next few hours in the Pyrénées-Orientales.
