There were dozens of them, now there are only 14. Can the fishermen of the port of Saumaty hope for a less gloomy future? This is the question to which our colleagues from Provence tried to answer in a report published this weekend. On site, in the fish auction, the drawn curtains are legion. But in the pipeline, it is a project which could well bring the place out of its torpor which is being prepared. Indeed, according to our colleagues, the National Interest Market (MIN), manager of Saumaty, has included in its roadmap ways to “revitalize” the place.
Among these avenues is precisely that of reopening an auction to offer fishermen better prices, or even carrying out work to modernize the infrastructure. This work should in particular make Saumaty a more attractive place for sales, but also for the processing of fishing products. Discussions are underway with a cooperative which brings together hundreds of fishermen from the region and Corsica. The fishermen of Saumaty would also be informed Provencein the process of forming a cooperative. In the coming months, a programming study must be launched by the metropolis (majority shareholder of the MIN) to prioritize these operations. These must still be approved by the metropolitan council, scheduled for February. Saumaty fishermen cross the lines.
