Halfway through, the renovation of the Municipal Administrative Center (Cam) located at Place du 11-Novembre in Laval (Mayenne) is already well advanced. With 3.1 million euros of investment over a year and a half, the building, a former post office rehabilitated into an administrative center in 1993, should accommodate around a hundred agents and receive 45,000 users per year.
A renovated space which should centralize all administrative procedures to be carried out by a user, such as, for example, civil status or marriages. This project gives pride of place to energy efficiency and comfort for all, ultimately leading to better quality of service.
“Reduce energy consumption by 40%”
Chloé Maugeais, director of sustainable buildings, explains that the renovation of the Administrative Center had to meet two objectives: low energy consumption and improved well-being: “After work, the building should reduce its energy consumption by 40% thanks to the replacement of all the technical equipment which compensated for poor optimization of the premises. For heating, for example, gas will be replaced by heat pumps and significant work was launched to improve the insulation of the frames. Question of comfort, the civil status service, located on the ground floor, was the subject of a complete refresh.”
An island of greenery
Other new features, the reception hall will open onto an island of greenery and will be quieter, with noise optimization carried out by specialist architects. The furniture, for its part, was selected based on ergonomics, in order to best promote well-being at work.
All these transformations are part of a city redevelopment plan consistent with the state of mind of Mayor Floriant Bercault, who is sensitive to the energy issue. “Laval is being renovated! I am not a builder mayor but a renovator mayor. Laval is renovating the 20% of its territory which are public spaces: roads, sidewalks, networks of squares and public buildings. They belong to everyone and we must take care of them.”
