The events took place this Monday, December 23, 2024 on the heights of the Carcassonne SNCF station, in rue Buffon.
This Monday, December 23, more fear than harm at the end of the morning. But above all, major damage to two heavily damaged parked vehicles, after the sudden fall of a tree… It was shortly after 11 a.m. that the incident occurred on the heights of the SNCF station, while automobile traffic was not was fortunately not that dense at this time of day. According to our information, the imposing tree fell with all its weight from a condominium along rue Buffon. Before lying down on half of this traffic axis linking the city center to the Pont Rouge area.
At this precise moment, there were fortunately few cars in this direction of traffic, thus limiting the consequences which could have been much more dramatic. On the other hand, two vehicles parked along the track paid the price. Hopefully their owners were well insured. Quickly on site, the Carcassonne municipal police officers secured the scene and regulated traffic, while the technical services took care of clearing the way as quickly as possible.
The tree having fallen from a private property on the side of the road, the City services had a bailiff's report made because this event was not their responsibility. For the rest, it was the municipality which took responsibility for clearing the road at its own expense.
