Christmas madness just a stone's throw from the Ring: after Halloween, Marie-Jeanne and Alain go all out on winter decorations, “we do it for the love of Christmas”

For around ten years, the couple from Hellebeekstraat have gone all out by decorating their house lavishly for Christmas. A tradition born in their previous home in Laeken. “We lived in a two-story house and there was a school next door. We started putting up a Santa Claus and garlands. The little ones from the school came to see, it was very nice and we continued.”

And over the years, the passion for decoration has grown with more and more pieces. “The attic is full, we have around thirty boxes of bananas filled“, says the Grimbergeoise. “You can find a lot of things cheaply. And everything is LED now, it’s much better for consumption.”

For Halloween, “it was madness”

Also for Halloween, the couple pulls out all the stops with a monstrous company at the entrance to their house. Witches, scary clowns, tombs, spiders… Enough to arouse great interest in the neighborhood. “It was crazy this year“, says Marie-Jeanne. “We had hundreds of people come to see. People from the city center, from Mechelen…”

There is also great enthusiasm for these winter Christmas decorations. “People come to take photos, children stop…“What warms the hearts of the Brabançons.”We do it for the love of Christmas, for the happiness of children and adults.”

Looking around, a general observation emerges: fewer and fewer people decorate their homes as the holidays approach. A touch of sadness for Alain, who launches a general appeal. “Decorate your house a little more, it will bring beauty to the world.”
