No less than five months of investigation were necessary before seeing a lead, after the arson of the Saint-Pierre-des-Corps swimming pool. According to our information, a 30-year-old man was arrested on the evening of Sunday December 22, 2024.

Arrested in by departmental security officials, he is suspected of having participated in the criminal project which devastated part of the municipal complex at the end of July 2024. He was in police custody at the central police station at the time of publication these lines, confirms a police source.

Multiple suspects?

On July 29, a fire broke out around 11 p.m., devastating the changing rooms, the reception hall and the swimming pool structure, which has since been closed to the public.

Traces of a break-in and drops of blood observed along the pool quickly led the investigations towards the hypothesis of voluntary destruction. “At least two people”would be involved, we sketch on site, Monday December 23, 2024.

Witnesses describe in particular the presence of a car and a driver on the lookout on the night of the incident, while one or more others would have entered under the glass roof of the pool, before lighting a fire.

A project worth more than a million euros

The structure of this building built in 1973, deeply affected, is currently being assessed by the insurance company of the City of Saint-Pierre-des-Corps. The figures are expected for January 2025 and should exceed one million euros, according to an initial trend.

Once the sums involved have been specified, the decision establishing repair or reconstruction, on site or on another plot, could be taken by the end of January.
