They too chose to use their notoriety to support Mayotte. During a major solidarity concert, Reunion artists gathered in Saint-Pierre, a “Konser po Mayotte” at Kerveguen this Sunday afternoon. Among the artists present, Lindigo and Christine Salem. The profits collected from ticket sales will be donated to the victims of Mayotte.
This is undoubtedly one of the best ways to bring the public together around the same cause. The music resonated all Sunday afternoon on the stage of Kerveguen in Saint-Pierre. A concert with 10 euros entry for a contribution to the solidarity effort towards the Mahorais.
“We cannot not be aware of what is happening in the world. It could be our place”estimates a participant. “It’s a way to help help them. With small means of course and it warms the heart to see that so many Reunion artists have been able to mobilize”congratulates another spectator.
And it's not every day that we can enjoy such a gathering of artists, brought together in a cabaret spirit rather than in the atmosphere of a major concert. For many, answering this call was obvious.
“That’s what we’re here for, it’s our mission, the Mahorais are our brothers and sisters, they are not far away. Today it happens to them but tomorrow it can happen to us”estimates Olivier Araste, leader of the Lindigo group.
“The little we can do, two short songs and the public gives ten euros. It’s already a beginning because I think the reconstruction will be long”predicts artist Tine Popy.
“When you see the images of what happened, for me the only word that came up was apocalypse. Everything I have read or heard on the networks, everywhere, scares me very much”confides Nicole Dambreville.
In 24 hours, around thirty artists got involved. We then had to prepare the stage with the Kerveguen team who cut short their vacation to organize the event.
“We wanted to bring the artists together and show that we are all together and that we support our Mahorese friends and compatriots in these difficult times. The concert was organized in 24 hours, around thirty artists responded. It’s exceptional, we thank the artists and the Kerveguen team because the hall is already closed so we are reopening the hall for this concert today”says Sandrine Aho-Nienne, elected for cultural affairs at the town hall of Saint-Pierre.
In total, 650 tickets were sold. All profits will be directly donated to the Mahorese victims.
