Perpignan: Solidarity Christmas at the Sängö space for around thirty families or single people in precarious circumstances

Initiated by the Fondation de Méditerranée, this mobilization in favor of people who are isolated or in difficulty also aims to “strengthen social bonds”. From December 8 to 21, several completely free events and activities took place in the Sängö space (socio-cultural center) where gifts left at the foot of the Christmas tree were distributed to the children.

Célia, 37, is a single mother of four daughters: Meîssa, 13, Mariana, 10, Awatef, 9 and the last, Djennah, 5. Saturday, December 21 in the evening, all five of them came to the meeting of solidarity, friendship and human warmth at the socio-cultural center of the Sängö space (Gate of Spain). The last workshop on family Christmas stories has just ended. Very lively interactive parent-child games will follow.

Célia, currently unemployed, is training to obtain a CAP in Early Childhood. “It's not easy to make ends meet at the moment, but above all I have to provide for the needs of my daughters before they take off, she explains. As soon as I can re-enter the job market again, it will be more comfortable for all of us. Here, we are happy to be able to clear our heads and the volunteers are so kind and caring for us… This made me want to give some of my free time to others and get involved in volunteering. “

Two Christmas trees

A little further, a young couple with their baby as well as a “Mother Christmas” with Léana, 13 years old, her daughter “already a crochet pro and visible on social networks!” and Nina, their little chihuahua dog wrapped in red, wait in the huge room of the association where two Christmas trees, one white for the children, the other green for the adults, have been installed. been placed at their feet.

“This evening (Saturday December 21), is the festive end of eight days of workshops, activities and meetings with families, explains Eléonore Bordione, responsible for civic education within the Sängö space. It started on December 8 with the Designer Christmas Market. We have also set up pottery workshops, making greeting cards, cooking with making Christmas shortbread, etc. As well as a solidarity collection and an introduction to crochet. We will soon sit down together to share the Christmas meal, then applaud our artists on the open stage and finally, the long-awaited moment, open all the presents.” What we call mutual aid and generosity.
