The events occurred on the evening of Sunday, December 22. Around 8:10 p.m., a crane fell at the Les jardin de Bastia residence, located on Chemin de l'Annonciade, close to the city center.
According to initial findings, the damage is only material and no injuries have been reported. The residents of the three buildings of the occupied residence are currently confined to their homes. Chemin de l'Annonciade is closed to traffic.
The crane was positioned on the site of a building under construction opposite the residence. When it fell, the machine hit the fifth floor of the building, causing some damage to the balconies. For the moment, these seem secure and without risk of collapse. Checks are underway. “She fell about a meter from my terrace, indicates Gérard Poletti, president of the union council of the Les Jardins de Bastia residence. We heard the noise but we didn't think it was the crane, it was a neighbor who alerted me. She demolished a veranda and folded in the middle of the building. There's a lot of material damage.” At the bottom of the building, a car was also damaged.
The firefighters began to strap the crane to the building's railings to prevent it from moving during the night. It should not be moved before Monday, December 23.
More information to come.
