Like every year, as the holidays approach, the firefighters 75 fire centers and of relief of Vendee are mobilizing for a operation of distribution of calendars. “We hold on to this tradition. Every year, all centers participate. This is a way for us to strengthen ties with the population. » As explained by Lieutenant-Colonel Alexis Paquereau, president of the Departmental Union of Vendée Firefighters (UDSP), this action is very anchored on the territory.
The technicality of the profession
Inside the calendar, we see photos taken in the field showing firefighters at work. These photos are often taken by the firefighters themselves. The objective is to put forward their professionalism, their know-how and their daily. “People also like to see the faces of firefighters, who they are. » For the lieutenant-colonel, the calendar is a symbol proximity.
The inhabitants receive very warmly their firefighters. “We are always very well received. People are impatiently awaiting our visit to get their calendar and exchange a few words,” confides Alexis Paquereau, happy to strengthen ties with the local population.

Beyond its role as financial support, the calendar is also a means of remember the gestures of FIRST AID : “I'm sure not everyone knows emergency numbers by heart. » The 18 and 112 are displayed several times in large print on the calendar pages.
The annual ritual
Distribution begins at end of October and continues until the end of December. It is generally carried out in the evening, between 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.a period when residents are often at home.
