Standard hosted Gantoise for the 19th day of the championship.
Beaten at home by La Gantoise (0-1), Standard conceded the seventh defeat of its season on the 19th day of the Jupiler Pro League. In the championship standings, the Buffalos remain 5th with 30 points while the Liégeois stagnate in 10th place (24 points).
The Reds were the first to put themselves forward with an attempt from Isaac Price, but the latter went well above the target (4th). A few minutes after this opportunity, the people of Ghent also tried their luck with a shot from Hugo Gambor, repelled by Mathieu Epolo (12th).
Author of a good combination for the first time in the game, Standard saw its action cut off in full swing as the linesman signaled an offside by Andi Zeqiri (39th). In the process, Omri Gandelman thought he opened the score for the Buffalos, but again a blatant offside prematurely ended the visitors' celebrations (40th).
Just before returning to the locker room, Andrew Hjulsager inherited a ball at the entrance to the rectangle after a poor restart from Liège, but the Dane's shot grazed the Epolo post (45th + 2).
Dominated during the first act, Ivan Leko's men showed a different side in the second half and almost saw their efforts rewarded. Ideally served by Zeqiri, Price had found the fault, but a VAR intervention pointed the Northern Irishman offside (66th). La Gantoise finally took the three points with a late goal from Franck Surdez. The Swiss recovered a ball in the small rectangle and sent an unstoppable header from close range to put his team in control (83rd, 0-1).
The 19th day will end with the clash between Union Saint-Gilloise and Club Bruges (6:30 p.m.) before the trip from Oud-Heverlee Louvain to Cercle (7:15 p.m.).
