The Rhone club from National 3 stood up to Toulouse FC (Ligue 1), before losing on penalties (0-0, 2-4 tab)
The dream lasted until the last second. Hauts Lyonnais, modest last in its group in National 3, delivered a heroic performance against Toulouse, firmly established in Ligue 1. On the pitch of the Feurs stadium, where the meeting had been relocated, the 1,800 spectators believed in the feat, but the experience of Toulouse ended up making the difference at the end of a breathtaking penalty shootout.
Despite a numerical superiority acquired from the 27th minute, after the expulsion of Schmidt (TFC) for a dangerous tackle, the Rhone residents failed to find the fault against a well-established defense. Returning to numerical equality after the exclusion of Loirette in the 67th minute, Hauts Lyonnais continued to resist the Toulouse attacks. The guardian Isidore Tissotimperious throughout the match, kept his team afloat, notably by repelling a dangerous strike from Suazo at the end of the match.
During the penalty shootout, there was still hope when Tissot stopped the first attempt of Skinnyand thatArthur Dallois transformed his shot. But two consecutive failures of Bouguerra (crossbar) and Jeanpierre (Dominguez stoppage) sealed the fate of Hauts Lyonnais.
If the feat eludes them, the players of Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise emerge from this Coupe de France with their heads held high.
