The intervention which has mobilized the Pyrénées-Orientales firefighters since 8 a.m. this Sunday, December 22, 2024 is not trivial. Firefighters, also friends of animals, are looking for two hunting dogs lost since Saturday evening in the town of Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet.
While they were out in the middle of the massif at a place called Bac de la Boulzane, south of departmental road 117, the two animals slipped into the forest. To the point of getting lost, or falling, below a cliff. Alerted, agents of the departmental fire and rescue service (Sdis) had to wait until daybreak to begin their search. The matter is taken seriously. The places are completely inaccessible by land means, the first path being several hundred meters away. A research and intervention group in dangerous environments (Grimp), a team specializing in drones, an animal team and a veterinarian were mobilized. That is, in total, around twenty staff.
At 11:30 a.m. this Sunday, after almost 4 hours of intervention, the two dogs were located using the drone. According to initial observations, they are still alive. Firefighters should try to reach them immediately to help them. And take care of them as quickly as possible, in the event of injuries.
