First poster of the 12e day of Top 14, the meeting between La Rochelle and Clermont (La Rochelle victory 20-15) was largely reduced to a fight sometimes bordering on parody during the first act. Multiple slips, yellow cards and two recurring actors: Will Skelton and Thomas Ceyte, both players almost clinging on every ruck. Which did not fail to get people talking on social networks.
La Rochelle – Clermont: the Skelton – Ceyte duel turns into boxing
Fortunately for the spectacle, no blows were exchanged during this face to face between Stade Rochelais and ASM. But looking at the first act, we are left wondering if Will Skelton and Thomas Ceyte had not arranged to meet. Or if one didn't have the mission to unpin the other.
Before the break, almost every tackle or clearance was an opportunity to cling, grab, struggle on the ground or tear your jersey. Nothing very glorious for some, “part of rugby” for others. Overall, a hell of a waste of time and energy.
The fight sends social networks into a tailspin
Yes, rugby is a combat sport (not to be confused with combat sports, however). However, the escapades of the two 2e line, sometimes joined by their partners, especially annoyed the spectators.
To the great surprise of observers, no yellow cards were inflicted on Skelton and Ceyte during the match!
