BYD now seems unstoppable. The Chinese giant is going from record to record and has just reached another important milestone. Over the entire year 2024, the factory located in Xi'an will have produced one million electrified vehicles.
The Shenzhen firm is preparing to celebrate its 22nd anniversary. A relatively young age when compared to those of Ford, Volkswagen, Toyota or Renault. Most historic automobile manufacturers have already passed the 100-year mark. But in 2024, age no longer matters. Tesla and BYD, two brands that did not exist at the time of the year 2000, now (very) largely dominate the electric segment.
BYD manufactures 4,000 electrified vehicles per day in Xi'an
In addition to China, BYD infiltrated several markets in Europe and found that demand was so strong that it had to order its own ships to export its electric cars. Over the past five years, the manufacturer has become a major player in the electrification sector. In November, the firm sold 506,804 electrified vehicles (100% electric and plug-in hybrids combined).
To meet this growing demand, BYD has strengthened its production capacities. An impressive new milestone has recently been reached. The factory alone in Xi'an, northwest China's Shaanxi province, produced one million electrified vehicles this year. The production site is capable of manufacturing between 4,000 and 4,400 vehicles per day.
The Seagull is number 1 in sales in China
Not to mention the models coming out of the eight other production sites in China, in Shenzhen, Changsha, Changzhou, Hefei, Fuzhou, Jinan, Henan and Xiangyang. To flood the rest of the world with its clean vehicles, BYD is also building factories in Brazil, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Turkey, Uzbekistan and even the United States.

This year, the Chinese giant's sales will exceed 4 million units. No brand has yet delivered so many electrified vehicles in one year. Moreover, there is one model that is a hit in particular: the Seagull. With 56,156 units sold in November 2024, this small electric vehicle, available at home for less than 10,000 euros, is the best-selling car in China (all engines combined).
