Expected and celebrated in many homes, Christmas is not always and for everyone synonymous with celebration… Whatever the reasons, if your calendar feels very bare from December 24 to 26, that's what fill it. With ideas for outings or activities in Strasbourg to keep you busy without feeling guilty, solo, in pairs or more if you like. The important thing: have fun.
Helping Strasbourg associations
If times are tough… The winter and holiday periods are even harder for isolated people and people in precarious situations. For those who would like getting involved alongside local associations at holiday time, to help their neighbor, or find a home or help yourself… We have devoted an article to this subject:
Are listed there several associations to get closer to to make themselves useful, with missions that range from confection/distribution hot mealsto collections (of toys or objects). You can also make them a donation to support them in their actions all year round.
Party, DJ sets option
Change of tempo… If to digest your turkey or escape your mom, you are looking for where to go to shake your bells, first option: direction the Wagon Souk. The Wednesday December 25 s'y will have the third “Time Kolapse Are U Ready X’Mas Party”. And “Christmas present” offered by Thug-L.
From 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.he will line up his friends and already announces: Alex Randal, Martin Paul, Miss Tricky, Mister Natasha, Nikopol, and Zdlka, for a selection of House / Minimal / Tech House / Melodic / Progressive / Tech.
Studio Saglio reiterates its “Bad Santa – Xmas Party”. Always the Wednesday 25th in the eveninghe invites you to swap Christmas bells for big Techno / Hard Techno / AcidCore / HardCore basses from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.. …We hope that you no longer believe in Santa Claus too much because it's in a very dark place “enchanted and mysterious forest” that you are about to enter.
Visit the Christmas market without tourists
Looking for a quieter option? Good or bad news: the Christmas market lasts this year until December 27.
If for several editions it stopped on the 24th, this time we can still take a look once the frenzy of the holidays has passed (with the exception of OFF market: last call for December 24). Good plan when you've been avoiding the city center for more than three weeks.
This will probably be freed from the majority of its touristsand even the people of Strasbourg should be very busy. It's the perfect time to finally give in to the sirens of salted butter pancakes and other flambé toasts.
However, pay attention to the opening hours: if it was previously open every day from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., on December 24 and 25, it will be held until 6 p.m.. And on December 25 and 26 (holidays), some stands may be closed (at the good will of those who hold them). Before reopening one last time on December 27.
A cinema just for yourself
If you want to get your head out from under the duvet, while still enjoying the comfort of a good movie… Another idea: the cinema. Because despite the two public holidays, almost all Strasbourg cinemas will open their doors from December 24 to 26.
In the Star and Star Saint-Exupéry cinemas, the last screenings of the 24th will take place between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. (with – among others – Twenty Gods by Louise Courvoisier), and they will resume the next afternoon. With additional: a Young Audience retrospective which starts on December 25 (with three Japanese animated films: Anzu, Ghost Cat, The Lonely Castle in the Looking Glass et Suzume).
Closed only on December 25, Le Cosmos will continue, he, his “Dragons and Dungeons” cycle until January 7 (with rear projections around the medieval/medieval-fantasy universe that will appeal to all generations).
On the sidelines, however, he is preparing some “Yay, it’s Christmas” sessions (dont some on December 24 and 26). “Ready to steal Christmas?” »… Note that it will rebroadcast the animated film as well Le Grinch by Yarrow Cheney and Scott Mosier (2018), Hugo Cabret by Martin Scorsese (2011), et The express center by Robert Zemeckis (2004), all three in French.
at theUGC Ciné Cité Strasbourg: lots of screenings on the 24th, none on the 25th, but it starts again on Thursday the 26th. He will also offer a cult session that day: Pulp Fiction by Quentin Tarantino (1994) in VOSTFR. A reference to (re)discover, thirty years after its release.
As for the Vox cinemait announced that it would be open every day during the holidays. Thursday December 26he even plans a special session that will delight romantics and nostalgics: The Holidays de Nancy Myers (2006), and VF.
Christmas movie par excellence, this great classic with a three-star cast (Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black et JUDE LAW, Please) may melt more than just snow.
Visit deserted museums
We already recommended it to you last year… With the departure of tourists and these few public holidays on your calendar, you might as well take advantage of it to… with make a museum. They should be calmer than usual. The city has around ten to visit (free on the first Sunday of the month – or Sunday January 5 for the next one –).
Note that for the holidays, they don't will only close on December 25 and January 1. As for December 24 and 31, they will only open until 4 p.m. (instead of 6 p.m.).
Chill without feeling guilty
To finish… The last option: listen to yourself and have fun. Whether you decide to bring together a few isolated loved ones or spend the holidays alone, the important thing is not to force yourself or feel guilty. We already have the whole year to do it.
So if we're in the mood: a meal between roommates or the neighborhood, or with the family of heart that we have chosen…
And if we prefer to be alone : we pamper ourselves with what makes us feel good, whether that means gorging on chocolate, indulging in three batches of bredele, a retrospective of our favorite series under the duvet or a good bath. And if we want to take a dip, we put this here: the Municipal Baths are open during the day on December 24.
The watchword: have none, and listen to your needs. It will be your best gift.
