Thouars ends the year in style against La Rochelle

It must be said that the Thouarsais did not really need to display all their talent on Saturday December 21 to overcome a La Rochelle team very weakened by absences, and quite worryingly weak.

As has often been the case since the start of the season, the Maritimes' opponents took the match from the right end and tried to quickly make the difference.

A recital of the Deux-Sévriens

With his power, Camara causes misery to his defenders, he ideally serves N'Diaye, whose shot flies into the La Rochelle sky (6e). The first opportunity in a long series. On reception, with a long touch, Camara won his duel and opened the scoring with a pivotal shot (0-1, 33e).

N'Diaye did not remain inactive and he doubled the advantage for his team after a magnificent individual action. In the middle, he imposed himself physically, his ball control was perfect and his cross shot deceived the La Rochelle goalkeeper (0-2, 38e).

Logical, as the visitors were technically superior and in their commitment to their opponents. On the local side, only Samaké seemed capable of making a difference, he also called on Avril at the end of the first period (42e).

Many missed opportunities

Subsequently, the Rochelais were a little more dangerous, but without creating real scoring opportunities, even if several crosses passed in front of the Deux-Sévrien goal, without however finding a taker.

It still took a vigilant April to prevent a recovery from June's lead (82e). After missing several opportunities to score an additional goal on the counter-attack, Thouars finally got there.

A cross from the right was collected at the far post by N'Diaye, who did not miss the opportunity to score a double (0-3, 90e + 2). Bressuire's home defeat against Périgny (2-4) allows the Rouge et Noir to return to 2e place in the ranking. The next meeting is the reception of FC Nueillaubiers, on January 11, 2025.

Hot

Pierre Naudet (trainer of Thouars) : “The team had a good first half, scoring two goals, which made our task easier. Subsequently we lacked control a little and we didn't attack enough, because there was the possibility of taking cover earlier. In this type of match, the third goal is important. If the Rochelais had marked him, the scenario could have changed. But as victory had eluded us for a month, there was perhaps a certain lack of confidence. We're finishing the year well, well done to the guys. »
