Ambitious goalkeeper, Vito Mannone had rage in his stomach this Friday, for his first start of the season. He also looked back on a frustrating first six months on an individual level.
At the age of 36, Vito Mannone has kept the same desire as when he started, that of playing all of his club's matches each season. On the LOSC side, however, he is ahead of Lucas Chevalier, indisputable starter and third goalkeeper of the France team. The Italian must therefore be champing at the bit, well aware that competition is fierce among the Mastiffs. So when the opportunity presents itself, like this Friday during Lille's victory in Rouen, the goalkeeper smiles again.
“I am very happy to have been able to be available for the team. I think I had my match.
It's important to record a clean sheet for the entire defense. We are on a good run (17 games without defeat including tax) and we must continue”he called to our microphone at the final whistle.
A “frustrating” joy
During the past financial year, under the leadership of Paulo Fonseca, Vito Mannone took advantage of the Europa Conference League to compete for a few minutes here and there. This option is no longer this season with the Champions League and the Italian remains at the dock: “It’s frustrating. It's not easyhe admitted to us in the bowels of the Stade Robert-Diochon. It's a bit of a difficult job because I have qualities to show. It's hard sometimes to push and still be there, but it's the job. I showed what I can do today (Friday) and I have to keep working every day. I'm still thinking in my head, like last year, like I'm number 1″he assured, determined to grab additional minutes in 2025.
A few weeks earlier, on September 7, he was lined up in the LOSC cages in National 3, during an opposition with the Entente SSG at Domaine de Luchin (3-2): “I asked to play a match and so did the coach. We had decided on all this together so that I would be ready this evening (in Rouen), so that I could have benchmarks and do my job correctly”he confided to us, to conclude.
