A table reminiscent of a grocery store, food products carefully arranged, surrounded by future traders: this week, a point of sale dedicated to fair trade was installed at the Jean-Nicoli vocational high school in Bastia.
“Here we only sell fair trade products”, explains Mountain, 15 years old, a second year student in the commerce sector, to a few customers curious about the items on offer.
Under the watchful eye of their teachers, she and twenty-three other classmates devote their afternoon to slipping into the role of salespeople, practicing reception, advice and sales.
“The students work on the entire process, from choosing products to communication”
The objective of this workshop? Apply theoretical knowledge. “We prepared and worked on the arguments, with the help of our teachers”adds the student, who wants to work in sales later.
It is therefore essential to know “the particularities of each product offered”, slips Lylou, another young person in training wishing to specialize in this sector. “The students work on the whole process, from product choice to communicationuntil the sale, with the putting into practice of the argument”, says Angélina Maestracci, a high school teacher.
A way to discover the field of commerce for Ghjulianu, another learner. “I discover different professions, this type of event is interesting.”
Raise students’ awareness of ethical values
The exercise has another goal: to raise students’ awareness of ethical values. The products, from producers in different regions of the world, particularly Asia and Africa, make it possible to raise funds Who “will be redistributed to farmers”, assures Valérie Gautier, a high school teacher.
The experience is not limited to this day. The next day, the students went to the Jeanne-d'Arc high school in Bastia to continue their skills in sales.
