Despite the cessation of Israeli bombings on Wednesday November 27, 2024, Lebanon remains greatly weakened. Its health infrastructure, for example, is struggling to cope without international aid.
“Lebanese healthcare structures need equipment to compensate for defects in sterilization units, hampered by numerous power outages”explains Benjamin Verriere, head of the pharmacy department at the Antibes Juan-les-Pins hospital center. Enough to jeopardize urgent operations in the operating room.
5,000 euros in donations
The municipality therefore financed 5,000 euros of medicines and medical equipment in partnership with the hospital, which prepared around two tonnes of stock presented this Friday, December 20.
Analgesics, antibiotics, anesthetics, 1,200 bags of solutions, but also suture kits and anti-diarrheal infant milk… The three carefully packaged pallets contain everything necessary to provide several days of care. They will be sent “from embassy to embassy” even to the Lebanese in need, we assure.
“The current events mean that we are constantly moved by what is happening in the world”said the mayor, Jean Leonetti, referring to the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, and more recently to Mayotte swept away by a terrible cyclone (financial aid was voted for the latter in the municipal council).
“We have, within the center, Lebanese doctors who have local contacts, making our collaboration with the municipality all the more important”added Bastien Ripert, director of the establishment.
