The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, accompanied by Mr. André Azoulay, Advisor to King Mohammed VI, chaired the signing ceremony of an agreement aimed at the revival and development of the “Mogador” tourist resort. Requiring an investment of 2.3 billion dirhams, this project is part of the High Royal Guidelines to strengthen the role of tourism as a lever for socio-economic development.
Signed with a consortium of Middle Eastern tourism leaders, composed of Naguib Sawiris, Hussain Al Nowais and Hossam El Shaer, this agreement commits investors to making 50% of investments in the “Mogador” resort by 2030, according to a press release. of the Department of the Head of Government.
The project provides for a 35% increase in the city’s accommodation capacity, reaching 3,700 beds, and the creation of 20,000 direct and indirect jobs. It also includes the extension of the Sofitel Mogador hotel, the construction of three new seaside hotels, a Club Med, a Beach Club, a leisure village and a golf course, thus strengthening the tourist attractiveness of Essaouira in the areas of cultural and sports tourism.
In his speech, Mr. Akhannouch stressed that this project will help consolidate Morocco’s positioning as a leading tourist destination and boost the tourism sector in Essaouira. He recalled the call of King Mohammed VI to promote the Atlantic coast of the Kingdom as a space of human and economic influence.
The Head of Government also insisted on the government’s efforts to encourage investments in tourism and related sectors, by providing suitable mechanisms to support investors in their projects.
This strategic project, located in the heart of Essaouira, illustrates a global vision for the development of tourism in Morocco, combining the development of cultural and natural heritage, job creation, and strategic investments. Essaouira, a symbol of cultural diversity and universal heritage, is thus strengthened in its attractiveness and economic dynamics.
The ceremony was attended by members of the government, including Ms. Nadia Fettah, Minister of Economy and Finance, Ms. Fatim Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, and Mr. Karim Zidane, Minister Delegate in charge of Investment, as well as the governor of the province of Essaouira, Mr. Adil El Maliki, and several personalities from the banking and tourism sector.
