Mittens will be in order this Christmas Eve weekend throughout Quebec, where the wind effect will be very biting, including in the southern sectors of the province.
Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for certain areas, particularly in western Quebec.
“Very cold air, clear skies and light winds will result in extreme wind chills tonight and early Saturday morning,” the federal agency said.
For this Friday, in Montreal, the weather will be cloudy and cold with a 40% chance of snow showers under temperatures of -8 degrees.
The same scenario is expected in the center of the province, however with clearings in Quebec and the mercury falling into the abyss in the Saguenay sectors.
In Eastern Quebec, the sky will also be gray, except perhaps on the North Shore, where an alternation of sun and clouds is expected with temperatures of -8 degrees.
On Saturday, snow showers are expected in parts of the central and eastern parts of the province, with accumulations of up to 4 cm and strong winds.
In southwestern Quebec, the weather will be generally cloudy with more clearings in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, where the thermometer will show -20 degrees.
The sun will return on Sunday throughout Quebec, but the bitter cold will persist, with temperatures of -11 degrees in Montreal and Quebec.
