SENEGAL-CLIMATE-AWARENESS / Comic strips launched to raise children’s awareness of climate issues – Senegalese press agency

Dakar, Dec 20 (APS) – The NGO Natural Justice screened, at the Sembene Ousmane cinema complex in Dakar, a series of comics intended to raise awareness among younger generations of the issues of the energy transition, noted the APS.

”This innovative project aims to engage children and young people through accessible and interactive formats, highlighting crucial themes such as renewable energy, climate change and Senegal’s energy policies,” explained Sokhna Dié Ka, director of the Dakar branch of the said structure, at the end of the screening.

”These educational tools aim to establish a constructive dialogue with young people and prepare their future engagement on these issues,” she added.

In addition to raising awareness, she specifies, the project seeks to establish a framework for exchanges between children, parents, teachers and experts.

”These comics will be shown in schools and accompanied by community discussions to encourage collective appropriation of the themes,” she said.

She also welcomed the “major progress” noted in the energy mix in Senegal.

”Senegal, a pioneer in the field of energy mix, has already reached 30% renewable energy and plans to reach 40% by 2035,” she welcomed.

According to Sokhna Dié Ka, these figures are significant, compared to those of certain developed countries which advocate the energy transition, without reaching the level of Senegal.

”Natural Justice works closely in this dynamic with the Senegalese authorities, in particular the ministries in charge of Energy and the Environment, to guarantee the impact of our initiatives,” she said.

She insisted on the “fundamental” nature of the collaboration between the State and the NGO Natural Justice.

”What we do only makes sense if the authorities take ownership of our actions and integrate them into their development policies,” she concluded.
