On Wednesday, in the Walloon parliament, MP (Ecolo) Veronica Cremasco raised the subject of future bus lines with a high level of service which must be developed in Liège. In June 2023, the Walloon Transport Operator (OTW) announced that a first step would be taken at the same time as the commissioning of the tram with the start of a first line, the B2 busway (Guillemins – Sart-Tilman – CHU – Botanique) and that the three others will complete the offer by 2027.

If, despite a slight delay, line B2, currently under construction, is still planned to accompany the tram in spring 2025, things are less good for the other lines. and particularly for the B1 busway.

“According to the mobility studies carried out on this new line project, busway B 1, which will link Ans to Chênée, the expected attendance is 30,000 travelers per day, which would make it the second line of the Liège network in terms of attendance after the tram”, first recalled Minister François Desquesnes (Les Engagés). “A specialized office has just delivered its conclusions which will be presented to the various project partners and will lead to a refinement of the development plans. Then, applications for planning permission will be submitted, then works contracts will be awarded. The development of line B 1, given its length, will be divided into several projects with different time frames which will depend on the agreements and deadlines which will be obtained from the towns and municipalities. The OTW currently estimates that the implementation of the complete B 1 line should be possible for 2030.”
