Thursday evening, a man in his thirties was shot dead in the lobby of a building in Valencia, in a probable settling of scores against a backdrop of drug trafficking. The shooting took place shortly before 9:30 p.m., according to police sources cited by AFP.
A targeted execution with weapons of war
The victim was in the elevator, on the ground floor of the building, when he was hit by several bullet holes. The shots, coming from Kalashnikov-type weapons, echoed in the building.
Despite the rapid intervention of emergency services, the man succumbed to his injuries on the spot, confirmed the fire service. According to Valence town hall, the victim was well known to the police. Denis Iglesias, head of the Alliance de la Drôme union, said:
“It is most likely a settling of scores between rival gangs linked to local drug trafficking. »
Burned vehicle found after shooting
The perpetrators of the murder are currently on the run. A vehicle, supposedly used for their escape, was found burned in another district of Valencia, police said.
Valencia, recurring scene of violence linked to drug trafficking
This tragedy is not an isolated case. Valencia, a city of 65,000 inhabitants, is regularly affected by violence linked to drug trafficking. In May 2023, the city had already been shaken by a series of shootings which left four drug traffickers dead. More recently, in September 2023, a man was beaten to death after a dispute over a cocaine deal.
These events demonstrate an escalation of violence in this medium-sized city, where settling of scores between traffickers is increasing.
