And alarm sound, students screaming and running in the corridors, damaged partitions. These are the images that emerged on social networks very quickly after the intrusion of unauthorized people into the Bréquigny high school in Rennes, which led the management to send the students home this Thursday, December 19.
A blockade that degenerates?
In the morning, a blockade had been organized in front of the establishment. According to a student who testifies tonews Rennesthis blockade failed.
They entered the establishment, knocked on all the doors of all classes, some shouting anti-racist slogans.
Another student explains that the situation in front of the establishment has degenerated with the arrival of the police.
“Monkey cries”
This situation results weeks of tension within the establishment. Indeed, racist comments and actions performed by students, particularly from a second grade class, were recorded, notably “ monkey cries » towards students when they went to the blackboard or spoke, several sources report to the editorial staff.
A student from this same second class even opened un compte TikTok using the photo of a teacherwho carried complaint, on which racist videos and messages were broadcast.
A disciplinary council
The tension rose a notch at the end of its disciplinary councilWednesday December 11. The student was subject a definitive suspended exclusion. That is to say, he continues to come to class, provided that his behavior is exemplary.
The representatives of the teaching and education staff on the high school board of directors have disputed the decision of the disciplinary council.
Whatever the content of the debates – kept secret – of this council, and the possible attenuating circumstances for the student which may have been exposed there, we believe that the serenity of the academic career of the student in question took too much precedence. on the serenity, reputation, dignity and safety of the students and teachers who are victims of these acts.
“What should we remember from this?, add the staff representatives, (…) That serious torts (…) can be resolved by a simple change of class? », they continue.
The members of the “CGT éduc’action -SNES/FSU- SUD education and sympathizers for an egalitarian and emancipatory school” list have thus decided to resign collectively of the board of directors and all associated commissions, including the disciplinary council.
“He explained and apologized”
After the events which took place in the morning, requested by news Rennesa parent representative notes a situation “ inadmissible ». This person confirms having been aware of the tensions within the establishment in recent weeks. She herself took part in the disciplinary council for the second year student: “ He explained and apologized. He explained that he did not wish to harm this teacher. »
This witness also discusses the decision that was taken by the 14 members of the council.
This is the second highest sanction on the punishment scale. In each disciplinary council, the principal each time proposes the highest sanction – i.e. permanent exclusion – and the members vote by secret ballot. There, the majority voted against, so the following sanction was proposed and the members voted, again by secret ballot, in majority for suspended exclusion.
What this witness also keeps from this disciplinary council is family support towards the educational community to define educational work with the sanctioned student so that he can become aware of his actions.
Several students sanctioned
For this parent representative, the comments and actions are the work of a few students in this second grade class:
Several of them were apparently punished with two hours of detention. I don’t know the level of evidence available to sanction them.
Finally, this witness wants all stakeholders to be able to discuss: “Anger is never the solution. »
The principal of the Bréquigny high school does not wish to speak and refers the editorial to the communications unit of the rectorate, which did not want to provide us with further details.
