Climate policies: signing of a €100 million agreement between Morocco and KfW

Morocco and Germany signed a 100 million euro (M€) agreement on Thursday in Rabat to finance the climate policy support program. The agreement was initialed by Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate responsible for the Budget, and Jan Schilling, regional head of the water sector at the German Development Bank (KfW), in the presence of several Moroccan ministers and officials.

This ambitious program aims to strengthen Morocco’s climate resilience and support its transition to a low-carbon economy. Mr. Lekjaa underlined the importance of this exemplary cooperation to support the Kingdom’s efforts in its ecological transition, while Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water, focused on concrete solutions such as the desalination and water saving.

The German Ambassador in Rabat, Robert Dölger, described this signing as a “strong symbol” of Moroccan-German cooperation based on mutual trust. He also recalled the urgency of acting in the face of climate challenges, stressing that climate remains a common strategic priority for the two countries.

For her part, the director of the KfW office in Morocco, Janne Rajpar, reaffirmed that the fight against climate change constitutes a central pillar of this collaboration. This agreement demonstrates the joint commitment of Morocco and Germany to develop innovative policies for a green and sustainable economy.
