Morocco and KfW sign a €100 million agreement to support climate policies

Fouzi Lekjaa, Deputy Minister for the Budget, and Jan Schilling, Regional Head of the Water Sector for North Africa at the German Development Bank (KfW), signed a financing agreement of 100 million euros for support the climate policy support program in Morocco.

This program aims to strengthen Morocco’s resilience to climate change and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy.

During the ceremony, Mr. Lekjaa praised the quality of Moroccan-German cooperation, in particular with the KfW, in the fight against climate change and supporting the ecological transition. He underlined the growing importance of climate resilience in the Kingdom’s economic and budgetary strategies, while recalling Morocco’s efforts to build a green economy.

Ahmed El Bouari, Minister of Agriculture, also highlighted the fruitful collaboration between the two countries in the agricultural field, while Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water, insisted on the need to strengthen sustainable water management, particularly through desalination and water saving. He also highlighted Morocco’s commitment to the development of renewable energies.

Robert Dölger, German Ambassador in Rabat, described this signing as a symbol of exemplary cooperation and mutual trust, while emphasizing the urgency of acting in the face of climate challenges. Janne Rajpar, director of the KfW office in Morocco, recalled that the fight against climate change is a central pillar of cooperation between the two countries.

Zakaria Hachlaf, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy Transition, was also present at this ceremony. MM. Lekjaa and Dölger reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the partnership between Morocco and Germany to jointly address environmental and climate challenges.
