A work accident cost the life of a transport agent in Tourcoing (North), Wednesday December 18, 2024. Around 9:30 a.m., while she was blowing dead leaves from the tram rails, the victim was hit by a tram, reports The Voice of the North .
The man, aged 38 and father of two children, died instantly. The firefighters could do nothing to bring him back to life. An investigation was opened to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy, and to understand why the victim did not hear the tram arriving.
Significant disruptions on the network
The victim was a temporary agent for Ilévia, the public transport service of the European Metropolis of Lille. Two of his colleagues as well as the tram driver, particularly shocked, were taken to hospital.
This tragic accident caused major disruptions to the network. Tram traffic was interrupted for several hours in both directions, between the Faidherbe and Tourcoing Center stops. Buses were made available to travelers. Disturbances which add to those that users have been experiencing for several months.
