The comings and goings were incessant this Thursday, December 19 in the morning in the Lupinu multipurpose room. The distribution operation Christmas packages carried out by the City of Bastia and the CCAS started the day before. Residents meeting the selection criteria can come and collect their packages there – as well as in the premises of the old town hall. “I have come to collect my box every year since I retired, confides Jean, a resident of the neighborhood. I am very satisfied with this initiative.”
Inside these golden packages: papillotes, canistrelli, chocolates and even nougat. A set of products, partly local, worth 70 euros. “The Corsicans are good people, it warms the heart”, reacts Aneta, originally from Romania, by collecting hers.
Home delivery
The beneficiaries of these packages are retirees with modest incomes or people with minimum social benefits due to disability. A number of requests which increases from year to year. 2,000 packages are being offered this year, including 500 distributed to retirement homes, homes for minors and to the homeless from the A Fratellenza association.
For those who cannot travel, a delivery system is set up. “We employ students to make deliveries, specifies the vice-president of the CCAS, Françoise Filippi. This approach is part of the preservation of intergenerational links.” An event full of solidarity that is close to his heart. “It corresponds to the soul of CCAS, that is to say sharing and the fight against isolation.”
