FIFA has unveiled its latest rankings for 2024, closing a rich year for the national teams. Senegal maintains its 17th place in the world and confirms its rank as the second best African nation behind Morocco.
The international break in November did not generate many changes. Despite a brief exit from the top 20 in September, the Lions regained their place in October. This return symbolizes their constant performances, marked by qualification for the next African Cup of Nations. Undefeated in the qualifiers and first in their group, the Senegalese were able to bounce back after a disappointing elimination at the start of the year during CAN 2024 in Ivory Coast. They thus conclude the year by consolidating their position among the great footballing nations.
On the continent, Morocco continues to dominate, occupying 14th place in the world. Behind Senegal, Egypt (33rd), Algeria (37th) and Nigeria (44th) complete the African top 5. Other nations made their mark: Angola made a remarkable progression of 32 places, reaching 85th place, while Tunisia and Ivory Coast saw their rankings decline. At the global level, few surprises. Argentina ends the year on top, followed by France and Spain, confirming their domination on the international scene.
