The opening of an exhibition of works by the Spanish painter Mariano Bertuchi, which reveals the authentic Morocco of the last century, took place recently in Alicante, in the south-east of Spain.

Entitled “Mariano Bertuchi, images of Morocco”, this exhibition organized by Casa Mediterraneo (House of the Mediterranean), offers the public the opportunity to explore little-known paintings by Mariano Bertuchi and to discover authentic Morocco as captured by this painter who lived in Tetouan between 1930 and 1955. The exhibition unveils a collection of 42 new works which highlight the landscapes of Morocco, the lifestyles and the cultural expressions of its inhabitants during this period.

In a statement to MAP, the curator of the exhibition Juan Ramón Roca indicated that this cultural event is a tribute to Mariano Bertuchi, on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of his birth, and to his strong ties with Morocco, country where he lived for the last 25 years of his life. “The exhibition shines the spotlight on a little-known profile of the painter and on his works never revealed to the general public, which distinguish him from other artists because they give pride of place to the real and authentic landscapes of an ancestral Morocco, far from fantasies “, he stressed.
