Senegal has a relatively dense banking network, thanks to the increase in the number of service points.
The network continued to expand thanks to the 11.29% increase in open agencies and offices, the number of which reached five hundred and sixty-two (562) in 2023 compared to five hundred and five (505) in 2022.
The number of automated teller machines (ATMs) also increased by twenty-eight (28) units, going from seven hundred and eleven (711) in 2022 to seven hundred and thirty-nine (739) in 2023, an improvement of 3 .94%.
However, the development of financial innovations and the geographic inaccessibility to service points in rural areas should encourage banks to extend the scope of their services beyond traditional branches. As such, the model of “ Agency banking » could be a cost-effective way to deliver digital financial services to the most remote areas, through a diverse agent network. IFor banks, it will therefore be a question of building a network outside of traditional service points with the aim of reducing their physical infrastructure costs, but also of facilitating local customer service.
