Dakar, Dec 18 (APS) – The acceleration of the policy of territorial planning, regional development and modernization of municipalities is an emergency, considers the President of the Republic while chairing the Council of Ministers this Wednesday, December 18 .

“By addressing the issue of town planning, architecture, housing and housing promotion policy, the Head of State indicated that the materialization [du programme] ‘Senegal 2050’ reveals the urgency of accelerating territorial planning, the development of our terroirs, as well as the modernization of our communes and cities from the poles”, noted the Minister of Vocational and Technical Training and brings – government spokesperson, Amadou Moustapha Njekk Sarré.

“He asked the Minister of Urban Planning, Territorial Communities and Territorial Planning to ensure the updating and/or generalization of urban master plans in all municipalities and cities in Senegal,” reports Mr. Sarré in the press release from the Council of Ministers.

He adds, quoting the Head of State, that “this imperative planning exercise is fundamental to controlling urban development and accelerating, in the coherence and rigor of the developments, the implementation of the housing and development policy. promotion of social housing in particular”.

A “rigorous application” of town planning, construction, sanitation codes, etc.

“In this wake, [Bassirou Diomaye Faye] asked the Minister of Urban Planning, Territorial Communities and Territorial Planning to ensure the strict application of harmonized architectural rules in each commune and city in Senegal. In this regard, he invited the government to work with the Order of Architects [du Sénégal] to propose a new legal and regulatory framework for the implementation of Senegal’s new architectural policy.

“With a view to a dynamic of overhauling the town planning, construction and housing policy, the President of the Republic has urged the government to continue efforts to promote construction to standards for housing, buildings and buildings” , we also read in the press release from the Council of Ministers.

Mr. Faye recommends to the ministers concerned to ensure “rigorous application of town planning, construction, sanitation and mainly environmental codes”.

Control of coastal developments and occupations, as well as “involvement of the National Reference Laboratory for Buildings and Public Works” are among the recommendations made to the government by the Head of State.

The latter at the same time recommends “the integration of a requirement for landscaping and green spaces in neighborhoods and homes”.

Initial and continuing training for construction professionals must be provided by specialized schools and institutes, recalls Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
