Diourbel, Dec 18 (APS) – Students from the Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba technical high school in Diourbel (LTAB) organized a march on Wednesday to demand the creation of a national technical university, which will allow graduates of the technical series from the various establishments in the countries to pursue higher education in their preferred fields.
“Today, we see that 90% of technical baccalaureate graduates are sent to unsuitable university courses. This is why we demand the creation of a national technical university meeting the needs of technical series baccalaureate holders,” declared to journalists, the president of the LTAB technical club, Moustapha Ndiaye.
He was speaking in front of the premises of the regional station of Radiotélévision Sénégalaise (RTS), the base for a march that the students of this technical high school organized to alert the authorities.
“We organized this march to refuse to be forgotten by the education system. We are fighting for equity and recognition of the rights of students and graduates of technical and vocational education,” said Moustapha Ndiaye.
Estimating that in 2023, 20% of technical series baccalaureate holders experienced “a blank year”, he said he feared that in 2024, this rate could reach 50%.
”Since 2014, technical series baccalaureate graduates have still not been oriented and others have been in sectors that are unsuitable for their school curriculum,” he said.
In addition, the president of the technical club of the Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba technical high school in Diourbel noted the lack of modern equipment in the workshops and laboratories of this establishment.
