From spring 2025 until December 2031, a new cultural third place will be set up on the left bank of the port of Vannes, in Morbihan. Baptized The Crossingthis ambitious project, carried by SAS 1pact and supported by the association Art takes to the streets (formerly Dédale), will succeed the emblematic Briefa bar also located on the left bank of the port, whose adventure will end at the end of 2024.
The project The Crossing was chosen following a call for projects launched by the municipality of Vannes to designate the future manager of the former building of the Departmental Directorate of Equipment (DDE), and thus succeed Brief. Three proposals were in competition, and it was that of Laurent Sanchez, former member of the Dédale association, which was selected by the jury for its innovative approach and artistic commitment. The winner will be officially announced at the municipal council meeting on December 16, 2024.
The Crossing is intended to be a place of meetings, creativity and discoveries, where contemporary and urban art will take a central place. The project provides for the creation of around thirty workshops for artists, a co-living space allowing creators to stay and work on site, as well as a gallery dedicated to the sale of the works of artists in residence. A temporary immersive exhibition space will also be set up for artistic events, while a permanent exhibition, focusing on urban art and managed by the ARCANES center (Digital Archives of Urban Art), will offer visitors an immersion in the history of this movement.
The cultural dimension of the project does not stop there. A theater will be set up to host performing arts shows and film screenings, while a concert stage will allow one to two concerts per week to be programmed, reinforcing the dynamic aspect of the space.
The economic model of The Crossing will rely on several sources of income, in particular a bar offering a “street food” type catering offer, as well as a tea room and a wine bar, friendly places to relax and chat. Coworking spaces will also be made available to independent workers, while artist studios will help to bring the place to life on a daily basis.
