However, this is not the case, assures Hervé Guihard, the mayor of Saint-Brieuc, during the municipal council meeting this Monday, December 16. “We were selected for the work we carry out within the framework of our CLSPD (Local Security and Delinquency Prevention Council),” he says. “Thanks to this call for projects, we are going to work on prevention, at the end of the chain of small-scale trafficking with these kids who earn a few hundred euros.”

Four areas of work, fifteen actions

By being the winner, the City of Saint-Brieuc will benefit from €164,710 in funding over three years to carry out a series of actions in the eastern districts. With the ambition of preventing young people from the neighborhoods from falling into drug trafficking. For this, four areas of work have been imagined, bringing together fifteen different actions.

Some of these actions should make it possible to improve working relations between the different actors in the prevention and fight against trafficking. Others to raise awareness among city professionals on the issue. Different actions aimed at young people themselves will also be put in place. In the plan designed by the municipality, the development of a system aimed at limiting school dropouts is envisaged. The City also wishes to better invest in public space to promote links between residents.

“We have to think about repression”

“It’s excellent to work on prevention and prevent young people from falling into a downward spiral,” says Raphaël Le Méhauté, the opposition spokesperson. “But we also have to think about the repression aspect. Repression of trafficking and consumption.” “We have carried out work in this direction by strengthening the links between the National Police and the municipal police,” explains Hervé Guihard. “It’s something relatively imperfect but we’re improving.”

A first steering committee for this new program must take place in January 2025. It brings together different stakeholders such as the City, the prefecture, the National Police, the judicial protection of youth, National Education, Terres d’Armor Habitat, the Beauvallon association…
