The context
Gaining momentum since the start of the season, Christophe Urios’ men have found their bearings, as evidenced by their place on the podium after eleven days. Undefeated in their home, the Clermontois are in difficulty outside their walls. Winner of a single away match on the LOU pitch, currently penultimate in the ranking. On a good dynamic of three consecutive successes before the break, the ASM continues to gain confidence and could secure their podium this weekend in the event of success in the Maritimes. Narrowly defeated on the Leinster pitch last weekend, the Jaunards arrive in La Rochelle in search of victory.
On the Yellow and Black side, the machine has more difficulty getting started. Lacking results on the road, the Rochelais ended a 16-match unbeaten streak on the final day with the defeat against the promoted Breton side. The start of the Champions Cup adventure was good for the Maritimes, who had two wins against the top two in the English championship. Keen to redeem themselves in front of their public, Grégory Alldritt and his teammates will do everything possible to get rid of the Clermontois and win in a top 6 that could not be more contested. An opportunity to end the year well at home with a victory against a direct competitor in the final stages.
The last confrontation
The last time the two teams met was last March on Marcel Deflandre’s pitch. A benchmark match for the Maritimes who increased their attacks against a Clermont team lacking success. Well led by Judicaël Cancoriet, captain and try scorer, the Yellow and Black only conceded one penalty at the start of the match before scoring five tries (42-3). Winning with the offensive bonus, our Rochelais must keep good memories of the last reception of the Auvergnats.
