The Japanese government offered 94 fiberglass canoes in Senegal, for a value of 1.2 billion FCFAduring a reception ceremony in the presence of the Japanese ambassador to SenegalOsamu Izawa.
This equipment, received by Fatou DioufMinister of Fisheries, Maritime and Port Infrastructure, aim to improve artisanal fishing activities and of surveillance maritime.
“This donation provides essential tools to strengthen the capacities of fishermen and technicians in coastal surveillance and sustainable management of fishery resources,” declared the minister. She also highlighted the positive impact on economic opportunities coastal communities.
Ibrahima Marpresident of the local maritime fishing committees, expressed the gratitude of the beneficiaries, affirming that this equipment will allow them to “work efficiently and meet their needs with dignity”.
For his part, Osamu Izawa recalled that this initiative is part of the numerous actions undertaken by Japan to support Senegal in areas such as the economy, health, agriculture, education and sport.
The canoes, made by CFAO Mobilityoffer several advantages: a lifespan of 25 ansa reduction in environmental impact thanks to the preservation of trees, and fuel savings estimated at 30 %explained Pascal Louchelartdirector of CFAO Mobility.
Finally, the minister urged the beneficiaries to make responsible use of this material, stressing that it symbolizes the common commitment of Senegal and Japan in favor of sustainable fishing.
