Tambacounda, Dec 18 (APS) – Around 150,000 households spread across eight local authorities in the Bakel department (EST) will benefit from material, logistical and food support as part of the implementation of the Resilience and Community Development Project of the Senegal River Valley (PREC-VFS), indicated the coordinator of this project, Mamadou Diédhiou.

”The project has provided an envelope of one billion 149 million CFA francs to help the affected populations along the Senegal River valley, which concerns the regions of Saint-Louis, Matam and Tambacounda, particularly in the department of Bakel, where the project will affect 150,000 households spread across eight municipalities,” he declared.

Mamadou Diéhdiou spoke at a regional development committee dedicated to sharing project activities, in the presence of the deputy governor of Tambacounda and the administrative and local authorities of the Bakel department.

As part of this support, the Bakel department will benefit, among other things, from foodstuffs, a batch of materials and equipment, in particular 95 motor pump units, mattresses and tents, to support the populations. affected by the floods that occurred last September.

In the implementation of the project in the three regions concerned, preventive measures, such as the construction of protective dikes are also planned to protect populations from climatic hazards.

”We are working on preventive aspects by integrating everything linked to climate change into planning documents. In terms of prevention, we will act through the construction of infrastructure, such as protective dikes to prevent these types of phenomena,” promised Mamadou Diédhiou.

The Senegal River Valley Resilience and Community Development Project is a project of the State of Senegal housed at the Ministry of Family and Solidarity, the implementation of which is ensured by the Emergency and Modernization Program of border axes and territories.

According to its coordinator, the PREC-VFS is financed by the World Bank to the tune of 150 million dollars, or nearly 90 billion CFA francs.
