Three children under 3 years old locked in a room. When they entered on September 19, 2021, around 11 a.m., into this apartment located at 7e floor of a building in Toulouse, taking the balcony, the firefighters made a terrible discovery: the lifeless body of a young mother.
A young 23-year-old mother
Presenting numerous facial injuriesWillimelle was aged 23 ans. It was his companion who contacted the emergency services. But he preferred to leave the place without waiting for their arrival.
Numerous bloodstains were discovered in theMirail apartmentscene of regular violence within the couple. Dispatched to the scene, the police arrested a 28 year old soldier came to knock on the door. A friend. But also a potential witnessquickly taken into custody.
A soldier in police custody
He says he was in the apartment the previous evening. According to him, an argument broke out around 11 p.m. between Jerry B. and the victim. Blows were struck. Violent.
The neighborhood survey confirms the frequent conflicts within the couple, against a backdrop ofalcoholism and consumption of narcotics. Jerry, Willimelle and three children (two of whom are common) aged 3 months, 1 year and 3 yearsare also in the process of being evicted from their accommodation. Too noisy for those who live there.
Domestic violence four months earlier
As the Toulouse public prosecutor then confirmed Toulouse Newsa complaint for domestic violence was educated four months before the drama.
“Last June, the courts were informed of a precedent of violence perpetrated by [le suspect] on his partner. No ITT had been issued to the victim. He was therefore the subject of a criminal composition measure, with the obligation to complete an awareness course on domestic violence.
In June 2021, the victim already received a punch in the face. His head hit the washing machine. She was given staples to suture the 6 cm wound she had on her head. The violent companion has no never completed the internship mentioned, despite several reminders of summons from the judicial authority.
The companion turns himself in to the police
The suspect was arrested a few hours after the discovery of the body, in front of the Bellefontaine police station where he came to deliver himself. In police custody, he gives his version of the evening. He woke up at 11 p.m., after a two-hour “nap”. The absence of his companion left to call at the foot of the building.
Without doubt out of jealousyor “because she makes too much noise”, the accused – positive for narcotics – waited for the latter, lurking in the stairwell. Before hitting her. Outside the apartment, then inside, in the presence of several witnesses. The companion even confesses to having worn kicks, stomach and head.
Head trauma, fractures, internal wounds
The victim is fallen KO according to the attacker. Did the witnesses perceive the seriousness of his condition? Did the accused threaten them all with a knife as some have mentioned? Why didn’t anyone call for help? Everyone left the apartment. For fear of reprisals or to… continue a festive evening.
Although the companion denies any homicidal intent, in the morning, Willimelle is dead. The autopsy reveals a head traumaof the fractures nose, a tooth, several ribs, and internal wounds to the sex of the victim, “compatible with the use of an object”, perhaps a toilet brush.
Two accused in the box
A few weeks after the events, the accused allegedly attributed some of these injuries to actions carried out in the early morning, in a desperate desire to “resuscitate” his partner and “limit her internal bleeding”. The victim has, in fine“succumbed to theinhalation of gastric contentscaused by injuries resulting from the blows received. Choking on her vomit.
It is this apocalyptic painting that is worth Jerry B. 34 years old, and Wacoco W31 years old, both natives of New Caledonia, to appear before the Haute-Garonne Assize Courtin Toulouse, from Wednesday December 18, 2024.
The companion faces life imprisonment
Detained since the facts, the first is tried for spousal murder. A qualification which makes him incur life imprisonment for this alleged femicide. The second, for failure to assist a person in danger. The trial is heard over three days. The verdict is expected on Friday December 20.
Law enforcement in the hot seat?
Could we have saved Willimelle? The evening of the murder, a neighbor irritated by the noise contacted the 17th to complain about this umpteenth noise. But no police crew was sent to rue Aristide-Maillol. An “operator handling error”, according to the police. The IGPN (the police) was asked to carry out an administrative investigation into this (big) mistake. The conclusions of his investigations are unknown.
Would sending a patrol have made it possible to calm the main protagonist before the episode of violence? Or to understand the dramatic nature of the injuries suffered by the victim? And to save his life? Unfortunately, these questions will forever remain unanswered…
