François Bayrou defended his presence the day before at the Pau municipal council before the deputies on Tuesday, which drew criticism from all political sidesbelieving that“we do not have the right to separate the province and the circle of powers in Paris”.
“Pau is in France (…) I chaired the municipal council of my town from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. I consider that, in doing so, I was also in my place as a citizen and I intend to defend this idea that citizenship is not divided between being in Paris and fulfilling one’s responsibilities as a citizen on the ground.”added the Prime Minister, responding to a question from the leader of LFI deputies, Mathilde Panot.
Monday in front of the municipal council of the commune of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, of which he has been the councilor for 10 yearsBayrou had already described“error” the ban on the accumulation of mandates for parliamentarians, a rule established in 2014 under the presidency of François Hollande. “I think this debate needs to be resumed”he declared, specifying that he would ask this question in his general policy speech.
The law on non-cumulative mandates prohibits an elected official from holding certain elective functions in order to strengthen democracy and the availability of elected officials. In practice, it is possible to be minister (or even Prime Minister) and mayor at the same timebecause this law does not apply to ministerial functions.
Laure Lavalette addresses François Bayrou at the National Assembly: the latter intends to leave nothing “untreated” or “answered”
“I will not hide anything, I will leave nothing untreated and unanswered”, said François Bayrou this Tuesday, December 17. The latter spoke for the first time since his appointment before the National Assembly.
“All the problems that you have indicated which are linked to public spending, which are linked to the fractures in French society, I will try to resolve them.”
“I will try for the others, the fractures, to heal them, and I will try to do it taking into account each of the groups”he added, in response to a question from the Var deputy of the National Rally, Laure Lavalette.
