It was eagerly awaited by many residents of Perpignan and the Pyrénées-Orientales: the white Christmas parade will ultimately not take place in the city center, for the end of year celebrations. First postponed due to strong winds at the beginning of the month, the event was finally canceled. The municipality explains why.

The white parade of Perpignan will not take place

It was one of the new things from the city of Perpignan for these end-of-year festivities, but visitors will ultimately not have the chance to admire it. The white Christmas parade is officially canceled, announces the town hall.

Originally scheduled for Saturday December 7a week after the first classic Christmas parade, this second parade was to honor dancers, jugglers, stilt walkers and acrobats dressed in white, in a “polar” atmospherein which the public was called to come dressed in white.

Postponed by the storm, canceled due to lack of slot

But while several thousand spectators were expected, including many Spanish tourists, who came to enjoy the Purissima bridge in the Pyrénées-Orientales, the storm which swept through the department caused the postponement of this magical event.

The city of Perpignan had announced that the latter would be “possibly postponed to a later date”. Unfortunately, the town hall services have not found a new niche to offer this show, in particular because of the unavailability of the company offering the paradecommitted to other dates in the coming weeks, specifies the city at News Perpignan.

The cavalcade of the Three Kings maintained

Also, the Perpignan municipality indicates that the postponement of such a parade would compete too closely with the other major event expected in the city center in the coming weeks: the cavalcade of the Three Kingsscheduled for Saturday January 4.

As a reminder, the Christmas holidays will end in Perpignan with this other highly anticipated stroll. Melchior, Gaspard and Balthazar and their camels will come to parade on Place Gambetta, with giant puppets, actors, musicians, jugglers… And many other artists who “will parade through the streets of the city center to dazzle young and old”, promises the town hall.
