6 firefighters from CIS Rennes Le Blosne honored following the VSAV accident on September 3
Medal for acts of courage and dedication, silver level
Chief Sergeant Brice Fortin – CIS Rennes Le Blosne
On September 4, Staff Sergeant Brice Fortin is hired as head of equipment at the VSAV for a public road accident. While a pedestrian is lying on the road and several witnesses are driving nearby on the unsecured road, he has the immediate reflex to take care of the people on the spot to bring them to safety. Brice Fortin was unfortunately hit by a vehicle arriving at high speed, at the same time as his colleague Master Corporal Thomas Denis and a witness. He is transported by his colleagues in absolute emergency to the hospital center.
For the composure and responsiveness he demonstrated to bring several witnesses to safety, protect them from the danger to which they were exposed, and avoid an even more dramatic outcome, the Prefect of Ille-et-Vilaine awards him a medal for act of courage and dedication, silver level.
Chief Sergeant Ludovic Niel – CIS Rennes Le Blosne
Chief Sergeant Ludovic Niel was a driver at VSAV in the accident which occurred on September 4. While his colleagues got out of the vehicle to take care of the witnesses and the victim, he saw the vehicle coming from behind at high speed. Anticipating the impact, he has the reflex to release the handbrake to absorb the impact. Projected 35 meters, he was transported urgently to the hospital center. For his composure and the relevance of his reflexes which made it possible to anticipate a serious accident, the Prefect of Ille-et-Vilaine awarded him a medal for an act of courage and dedication at the silver level.

Lieutenant 2nd class Franck Esnault – Rennes Le Blosne
Lieutenant 2th classe Franck Esnault was group leader on the VSAV accident which occurred on September 4. When he arrived on the scene, the death toll was 3 firefighters and 5 witnesses injured, some of them seriously. He organizes the reinforcement of resources of the Interdepartmental Directorate of Western Roads, but also rescue vehicles to take care of the victims, and anticipates the increase in power of the chain of command. Through his exemplary calm and thoughtful actions, Franck Esnault enabled the injured to be treated in the best conditions while avoiding a much more serious outcome. For the responsiveness he demonstrated and the relevance of his actions, the Prefect of Ille-et-Vilaine awarded him an honorable mention for an act of courage and dedication.

Sergeant Germain Rio, Master Corporal Jordan Joliet, Corporal Jérémy Le Bour – CIS Rennes Le Blosne
Sergeant Germain Rio, Master Corporal Jordan Joliet and Corporal Jérémy Le Bour were all three crew members at the FPTSR in the accident which occurred on September 4. They had to take care of their colleague as well as a seriously injured witness by providing them with first aid which made it possible to avoid an even more serious death toll.
For the composure, responsiveness and relevance of the actions they demonstrated in this particularly trying situation, the Prefect of Ille-et-Vilaine gives them a letter of congratulations for acts of courage and dedication.
